Since the Bank was established in 1907, the privacy and safety of your financial information have remained Abbeville First Bank’s top concern. Your transactions are as safe as the latest technology allows them to be. Abbeville First Bank works with technology partners to ensure that the most secure environment available is made possible for our customers. We offer you safe and secure Online Banking.
You can breathe easy knowing the Bank has the following security measures:
To keep your information private, encryption scrambles information as it is transmitted over the Internet. Our system ensures that data exchanged between your PC and our computers is encrypted with 128-bit encryption. This is accomplished through Secure Sockets Layers (SSL), which utilizes mathematical formulas to “encrypt” or hide information on the Internet. Also, if SSL detects that data was added or deleted after you sent it to the bank, the connection will be terminated in order to guard against any tampering.
Our computer system does not connect directly to the Internet. It is isolated from the network via “firewalls” and “filters.” A firewall is a combination of software and hardware products that designate parameters to control and limit the access that outside computers have to the bank’s internal network and databases. Filters examine each request for information, and after reviewing the request for specific criteria, information is forwarded accordingly.
Access IDs and passwords are isolated from the Internet by being stored on a secure computer. This way, the passwords and access IDs can never be accessed or downloaded by anyone on the Internet! The system also checks for invalid logins and automatically disallows a user after three invalid attempts.
You will be responsible for maintaining one of the most important security measures, your access ID and password. When you receive your initial Online Banking access ID and password from Abbeville First Bank, you will be responsible for changing the initial access ID and password to your personally selected ID and password. It is our recommendation that you not use portions of your social security number, mother’s maiden name, or other easily obtainable information for your access ID or password. Be sure to keep your newly selected password a secret. Memorize it, or write it down and keep it in a safe place. Do not share your access ID or password with anyone else.
When you enter abbevillefirst.com, you pass through a “firewall” we use for security purposes. As you pass through it, we identify the Internet Protocol (IP) address associated with the device you are using, such as a personal computer or a handheld device. The IP address does not identify you personally, but it does allow Abbeville First Bank to identify the device you are using. We store IP addresses in case we ever need to track a connection to its point of origin for security reasons.
Leaving your computer with your account information open, even for a few moments, can be dangerous. Completely log out of Online Banking by clicking the “log out” button to reduce the risk of unauthorized access. Logging out ends your session and ensures that the next time you or anyone else tries to access your account, your access ID and password must be known and entered properly.
